On Monday, Nigeria’s primary labor unions closed the national grid to initiate an indefinite strike due to the government’s inability to reach an agreement on a new minimum wage, as reported by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), two prominent unions in the country, had announced on May 1st that they would commence industrial action if a new minimum wage deal wasn’t reached by the month’s end.
Following the breakdown of wage negotiations, they officially declared an indefinite strike on Friday, stating that it would persist until a new minimum wage was established.
