The presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu is prepared to terminate underperforming ministers who do not achieve their targets.

Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, disclosed to Sunday PUNCH that the President has not yet made decisions regarding the ministers’ performances.

However, he has instructed them to fulfill the administration’s eight-point agenda, cautioning that those who do not meet expectations will be relieved of their duties.

Onanuga also assessed the administration’s performance positively as it approaches its first year in office, giving it a rating of 70 percent. He highlighted that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria was initially allocating 97 percent of its revenue to debt servicing and borrowing for recurrent expenses such as salaries.

He stressed that the administration averted economic collapse by taking decisive actions such as removing the fuel subsidy and standardizing the exchange rate.

President Tinubu, during the inauguration of his 48 ministers, advisers, and other aides, urged them to prioritize the government’s immediate objective of lifting Nigeria out of poverty over personal interests.

The President delivered this advice at the conclusion of a three-day retreat for ministers, permanent secretaries, presidential aides, and other top government officials at the State House in Abuja last year after their appointment.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, marking his first anniversary in office, directed forty-seven ministers in his cabinet to present their performance reports to Nigerians.

The directive was conveyed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press briefing in Abuja.
