The autopsy report on the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, commonly known as Mohbad, has unveiled new details about his demise, yet the exact cause remains uncertain. The report, obtained by TheCable on Thursday, indicates that the autopsy took place at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and involved a toxicology examination.

The results of the test showed traces of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, in Mohbad’s system, but the concentration was not deadly. Antihistamines are frequently used to alleviate allergies, stomach issues, colds, and anxiety.
Furthermore, the autopsy disclosed an injury on Mohbad’s right forearm and moderate to severe decomposition of his body, which was unearthed eight days after burial. Nevertheless, no significant findings that could explain his death were found.
The report implies that the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock or drug reaction cannot be dismissed, despite the absence of notable post-mortem and toxicology results. Anaphylactic shock is a severe allergic reaction that can be life-threatening.
The report states, “It is worth noting that the body did not undergo an autopsy or embalming before interment on the second day. Following the Exhumation Order, the body was exhumed on 21/09/2023 (8 days after burial). The autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs. Apart from the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross finding could be attributed to death.”

“In light of this, samples were taken for toxicology to ascertain if there was any anaphylactic reaction, substance abuse, overdose, or common household poisoning. Toxicology revealed positive findings of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine; however, this concentration was not fatal or lethal. The other analyses were unremarkable.”
“To determine fatal anaphylactic shock, blood samples need to be taken as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. Given the foregoing, the cause of death could not be determined.”
“However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered due to the absence of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.”
The autopsy report underscores the importance of timely blood sampling to determine fatal anaphylactic shock, which was not feasible in this instance due to Mohbad’s burial on the second day.
