About the Sasol Foundation Bursary Program
Applications are now open for the 2025 Sasol Foundation Bursary Program. These performance-based bursaries include a work-back or pay-back obligation and are offered to talented individuals planning to study full-time toward an undergraduate degree in selected Engineering, Science, and Technology fields.
The Sasol Foundation Mining Fence-line Bursary Program aims to attract exceptional young talent to join the organization.

These bursaries support full-time studies leading to a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology at a recognized South African university.
Requirements
The Sasol Foundation Bursary program is available to individuals in their first to fourth academic year of studies in 2024, pursuing relevant qualifications or degrees.
First-year applicants should provide their Grade 12 results, second-year students must submit their first-year results, third-year students must submit their second-year results, and fourth-year students must submit their third-year results, all meeting the specified minimum requirements:
- B.Eng. and B.Sc.Eng
- Level 6: 70-79% for Mathematics (not Maths Literacy)
- Level 6: 70-79% for Physical Science
- Level 5: 60-69% for English First Additional Language or
- Level 5: 60-69% for English Home Language or
- Level 4: 50-59% for English Second Additional Language

Students currently in their second, third, or fourth academic year must apply for the Sasol Foundation Bursary Program with their academic results from the previous year (2023). The following minimum requirements apply:
- The student must be registered for full-time studies toward the applicable degree course in 2023.
- Applications must be for full-time studies toward an academic degree at an accredited and approved South African university. Note: Studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA) will not be considered.
- No bursaries will be awarded for studies at a University of Technology, except for studies in Mine Surveying.
Sasol Foundation Bursary Program Application Procedure:
- Applicants must be South African citizens with a valid ID document/card.
- Shortlisted applicants must be willing and able to participate in online psychometric testing as part of the selection process. These assessments will occur before the interview phase.
- A complete academic record (from the start of studies to the end of 2023) and proof of registration are required when applying.
- Proof of permanent home residence, including the municipality and district (the address you will return to during holidays), is required when applying.
- The Sasol Foundation Bursary offer will be withdrawn or terminated if it is determined that the student has not physically resided permanently in one of the specified municipalities at the time of application or awarding of the bursary.
- All bursaries awarded are subject to the condition that applicants complete their studies within a maximum period of five years (from start date to completion date for the specific degree course). The minimum criteria will still apply.
- Bursaries will not be available to students enrolled in dual/combined/hybrid degree programs.
- Students are discouraged from applying if they do not meet the requirements or if they apply with false intentions, as this may lead to termination of the contract.
- Notifications regarding the status of student applications (whether successful or unsuccessful) will be provided by the end of November.
